Following months of extensive consultation with the internal team, partners, stakeholders and policy makers, Sport For Confidence has released ‘Play Your Part’, a strategic document that clearly defines how the progressive, award winning, organisation plans to continue to bring communities together to tackle inequalities and strive for a more equitable society.

Jake Turner, Operations Director, Sport For Confidence, says: “It’s a sad fact of life that, according to Sport England’s Active Lives Survey, disabled people are almost twice as likely to be physically inactive compared to the rest of the population, yet it is widely recognised that leading an active lifestyle can deliver physical, mental and social benefits that would hugely benefit this segment of the population. Over the last 6 years, Sport for Confidence has developed hugely as a business, maturing into what it is today. We started work on this strategy to articulate the value we feel we add to society and to reiterate our longer term ambitions.

“This document is the result of hundreds of hours of consultation. Internally the entire Sport For confidence team from Occupational Therapists and sports coaches to the Board of Directors, has had a chance to input. We also engaged ‘Team Create’, our participant focus group, to ensure the document reflected the perspective of those we serve. Their input has been instrumental in the clarification of our vision and intent. Externally, we involved our community partners including; facility operators, health care professionals, care providers, sports clubs. It’s been a long process but it has been worth it.”

Lyndsey Barrett, BEM, Founder of Sport For Confidence and lead Occupational Therapist, says:
“As Occupational Therapists in any setting, we see the impact of ‘inactivity’ in people’s lives. We play a key role in challenging this and seek to empower and enable people to have opportunities to engage in activity that is meaningful and life changing for them.

“Our Play Your Part strategy has been created to clearly define our vision, values and philosophy.
Sport and physical activity has the power to change lives. Everyone deserves an equal opportunity to participate. Our ambition is to bridge the gap between the need and the provision, creating a level playing field which gives everyone an opportunity to take part in activities that enhance their health and wellbeing.”
