Get To Know...Jess Clark
Posted on 1st August 2024 at 09:14
Continuing our blog series where we meet and learn more about our staff team, today we are shining a spotlight on Jess Clark, who joined us in June 2024 as our new Coach at our Basildon, Brentwood and Chelmsford delivery sites.
Jess also works as a CrossFit L1 instructor at her local box where she trains regularly. Jess is passionate about the benefits that physical activity can bring to the mind as well as the body. For the past 10 years Jess has been working in education as a Learning Support Assistant and a teacher. She enjoys learning new topics and helping others succeed in their goals as well as watching them find confidence in their own abilities.
We sat down with Jess and got to know her a little better.
Hi Jess!
• What made you want to become a coach?
'I have always been passionate about coaching. I have been coaching CrossFit since Jan 2017 alongside working in education.
When I decided to leave that sector, I decided that I wanted to spend more time coaching. It's not too dissimilar from teaching and it's great to watch other people enjoy physical activity and reap all of the benefits that come with it.'
• How did you first hear about Sport for Confidence?
'Megan Potts and Jake Turner from Sport for Confidence visited Writtle College where I worked previously. They delivered a presentation about the organisation and spoke about their individual roles. I was intrigued about the coaching role, and I was impressed by the work that the organisation did.'
• What has been your favourite thing so far about your role?
'That's a difficult one as there are many things I love about my role. One of them is how many people I meet every single day and I love how every day is different. I work with a variety of participants, Occupational Therapists and coaches across three different leisure centres. I get a real buzz working with others, so this role really suits me.'
• What book, song and tv show would you take to a desert island?
Life of Pi – Yann Martel
Banana Pancakes – Jack Johnson (just because it is such a chilled-out song!)
The Office (the original UK version)
Welcome to Sport for Confidence, Jess!
