During February half term (February 17 – 21), children who face barriers to participation will be able to enjoy a range of fun activities, thanks to the return of the popular inclusive sports programme delivered by award winning Sport For Confidence.
Specialist Sport For Confidence coaches, working alongside Occupational Therapists and other Allied Health Professions, will be delivering fun, adapted, skill building activities, giving children, aged 3-18 years, a chance to try a variety of sports including boccia, multisports, dodgeball and New Age Kurling.
Sessions will take place at three leisure centres:
- Leisure World Colchester (Monday February 17, 2.30pm – 4.30pm)
- Chelmsford Riverside Leisure Centre (Thursday February 20, 1.30pm – 3.30pm)
- Witham Leisure Centre (Friday, February 21, 12pm – 2pm)
Jake Turner, Operations Manager at Sport for Confidence, says: “Everybody deserves the opportunity to enjoy sport. Our sessions encourage fun and enjoyment, rather than performance and competition. We provide a chance for anybody to get involved in fulfilling and progressive activities which not only develop physical skills but also encourage social integration, self-awareness, confidence and independence.
Each 2 hour session will cost £5. Participants are very welcome to attend all or some at any of the venues hosting the programme. There are 8 spaces available for those with a unique passport ID number and 8 spaces for those without a unique passport ID number to encourage full inclusivity. Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
The programme has been funded by charity, Action For Children in association with Essex Short Breaks, to ensure more young people across the county are given opportunities to live life to the full.
Advance booking is essential. For more information contact firstname.lastname@example.org. When booking you will be required to quote the child’s unique passport ID number. This can be accessed from www.shortbreaks.essex.gov.uk
