We are celebrating this month, having been announced the winner of the Contribution to Disability Sport award at the Tendring Sports Awards.
Thanks to the great work of Lisa Strong, Occupational Therapist, and Tom Doughty, Head Coach, and Sports Coach, Tom Escudier, the Sport For Confidence programme, introduced at Clacton Leisure Centre in March this year, is going from strength to strength. On a monthly basis, the programme is already delivering an average of 115 interventions and offering a variety of sports including boccia, tennis, multisports and swimming.
Speaking about the award, Lisa says: “I’m so pleased our efforts have been officially recognised. Since launching in Clacton Leisure Centre, we have been attracting people with learning difficulties, physical mobility issues and a wide range of social and mental health issues, all of whom would otherwise struggle to participate. Sport delivers so many far reaching benefits which extend way beyond the field of play. It is incredibly rewarding to witness on a daily basis the lifechanging impact our programme is delivering.”
The win was announced at a prestigious evening awards event at Princes Theatre, Town Hall, Clacton on Sea on Thursday, October 17 organised and hosted by Active Tendring Partnership and fully supported by Tendring District Council.
